ROIBACK SUPPORTS LOCAL ATHLETES

 

At Roiback we firmly believe in teamwork, talent, perseverance and, above all, in sacrifice to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. The young gymnast, Alexandra Moody, embodies all these values ​​that lead to excellence. That is why more than a year ago we put our two cents to help her achieve all the goals along the formidable team of Club Gimnàstica Consell.

 

1. If you had to choose another sport, what would it be? Have you practiced any before getting into the world of rhythmic gymnastics?

If I had to do another sport, I would choose artistic gymnastics because it catches my attention since it combines many elements and qualities such as strength, flexibility, agility, etc. Before starting to practice gymnastics, I did tennis for several years with my uncle.

 

2. In 2013, with only one year of experience behind you, you won the second place in Mallorca and in the Balearic Islands. Do you remember how you celebrated it?

It was a very nice moment since it was the first time I got on a podium with this sport and that is why rhythmic gymnastics caught my attention so much. I remember that I celebrated it with my family, friends and coaches.

 

3. Since last September you study at Príncipes de España thanks to the recognition as a high-performance athlete in the Balearic Islands. What is it like to study in a center like this? What are the main differences compared to your previous school?

It is a great help to study in specialized centers for athletes since you receive a lot of support from the teachers. They understand how important sport is to you and therefore adapt to the situation of each student. For example, if you have a championship and you must travel, you do not have any problem in postponing the exams and they do everything possible to receive the class lessons that you have not been able to attend. You have the possibility to combine the studies with training.

 

4. Have you ever injured yourself at the gates of a major championship? What was your reaction?

Yes, I injured myself a few weeks before attending a screening with the national team. It is a feeling of helplessness because you want to train, but you know that it is better for your health to wait and heal. The important thing in these situations is to be very positive and do everything possible to heal quickly and in the best way.

 

5. How is it to prepare an individual competition? And group one?

Preparing a championship is one of the things I like the most about rhythm gymnastics because you work with great motivation and with a goal. We care about getting well both physically and psychologically. For this we work all the elements of our exercises to have some security and then enter with confidence to the tapestry, in addition to trying to be always in the best shape possible.

When you make a set, it is a team effort in which, based on repeating things, you end up acquiring confidence and security depending on the level of the gymnast, you work one way or another, polishing the weak points of each one.

 

6. How important do you think sponsors are for a local athlete?

From my point of view, the sponsors are what make the difference between the athletes. What I want to say with this is that a gymnast besides improving training, improves obtaining experience in both national and international competitions, that is, competing is a fundamental part of the rhythmic gymnastics. For this reason, a gymnast who receives aid has the possibility to compete more and thereby reach further. Therefore, the aid to athletes is a basic part of their career, because without them they do not have the same possibilities.

 

7. Could you select the destinations that you liked the most when you traveled to compete?

In general, I liked a lot all the places that I have visited during competitions. But among them some stand out more than others. My first youth championship was in Ávila, and I remember it with a special affection because apart from winning my first national medal, I really enjoyed the area. I like Asturias a lot and that’s why I’m always happy to compete there. One of the international championships where I have competed in has been in Luxembourg. This was a very nice experience because it is where I was born and that is why it is so special for me. I remember it was Christmas, I love this time of year where the atmosphere and the Christmas markets fill all the streets of the city. So far, I think the one I liked the most was the Corbeil championship, since it was my debut as a representative of the Spanish national team, and I had a great time with my coach. However, I must admit that I have enjoyed all the places where I have competed.

 

8. Choose the best moment of your career as an athlete and define it with a word.

I think one of the best moments of my career was when I was informed that I was going to be part of the national Spanish team, because it had been one of my dreams since I started. For me, it was a very big step in my career since we had worked very hard both myself and my coaches, in addition to sacrificing many things to achieve it.

I would define it with the word SATISFACTION.

 

9. We all have bad days. In these situations, how do you focus all your attention on training and clear your mind once you finish?

On bad days it is more difficult to give the maximum in training, but it is necessary. So, what I do is try to focus only on the training and forget about everything else. To do this, I remind myself of my objective and that helps me keep my motivation. In general, when I have finished, sadness or anger is gone, but if this is not the case, I repeat my objectives once again, I think about what I have achieved so far, and I do not throw in the towel.

 

10. Two years ago, in 2017 you won 11 medals in national and 2 international competitions. Do you remember what they were and in which category did you stay?

2017 was a very good season. In the youth championship I won three medals, two third positions and the other on second position. In June, in the national championship held in Valencia, I debuted in the First category and finished third in the general standings and I won two other medals in the finals.

Later we participated in an international championship in Luxembourg in which I finished second in the general standings and won two other medals per apparatus.

 

11. Tell us how it is for Alexandra Moody 24 hours a day on weekdays and one day on weekends.

During the week I usually get up around 7:45am, I get ready to go training, I have breakfast and at 9 a.m. I start training. Schedules vary, but usually end between 12:15 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Then I return to my house and rest for a while. In my free time I usually read or watch gymnastics on the computer (you learn a lot by watching). In the afternoon, I prepare again to go training and start at 4:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. After that I go back to my house to shower, have dinner and I enjoy spending a relaxed time with my family. Finally, I go to sleep to be rested for a new day. Sunday is the day I do not train. I usually sleep as much as I can and get up around

10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. These days I take the opportunity to spend time with my family and rest. However, we usually go for a little walk in order to not deactivate the body.

 

12. What is your next short-term goal? And long?

My next short-term goal is the national championship that takes place at the end of June. On this occasion, I will compete in the highest category of Honor and my goal is to stay in the best possible position.

My long-term goal would be to qualify for the Olympic Games as it is my dream. For both things we work hard every day to evolve and reach the maximum of our possibilities.

 

13. And to finish, do you have a motto to wake up/motivate each day? And when you travel to compete, do you bring some lucky charm?

Every day I remember what my goal is, that is, I remind myself why I do this, and I realize how much it is worthwhile, and that helps me keep my motivation day after day.

Before going to a championship, I repeat a few words with my mother and visualize my exercises, plus I carry all my amulets with me. Finally, I convince myself that everything will be fine.
